 Aggregation in parasites:
theory and tests

Picture
Arrenurus water mites infecting a Lestes disjunctus damselfly.
Aggregation of parasites is a general law in parasitiology: we are addressing why parasites might be aggregated, through use of statistical models.

Impacts of parasites on Arctic breeding birds

Picture
Northern common eider duck die-off on Mitivik Island, Nunavut.
Through a series of collaborations, we are addressing impacts of avian cholera and gut helminths (and contaminants) on Arctic-breeding Eider ducks.

Host species range for parasites

Picture
Engorged mite (left panel) and a resisted mite (right panel) of same species. Hosts: Nehallenia spp.
Some parasite species exploit few host species, whereas others have broad host ranges. We explore determinants and consequences of  host species ranges.
